Charity Program in India

When you sign up for one of our yoga  training programs ~ You will have helped secure an education for children who cannot afford to go to school!

At  Namah Shivaya we believe that the gift of an education is the most powerful tool to change a child’s life. We developed the  Yoga for Education program to help children in India living below the poverty line.

Our non profit charity organization, was founded by Yoga Acharya Tej in 2007 and consists of  a team of dedicated professionals who are inspired by a vision of  giving underpriveleged children an opportunity for a primary education.

In 2011, Namah Shivaya Yoga Training has chosen to sponsor  Janki, Madhu and Ajeet who will receive a primary education at Sarnath, India, covering costs of uniform, books, tuition and transportation for an entire year.

Even though every child in the world has the right to read and write and receive the invaluable gift of an education, sometimes the simple things that we take for granted, become a luxury or even an impossibility to some impoverished and orphaned children living in other parts of the globe.

Below are pictures of  Kati Pizer with her sponsored child Jyoti and Brigid King with her sponsored child Anoop during the Annual Sponsor Trip to India. Brigid has also completed her 500 Hour Training with Namah Shivaya Yoga.

We are committed to fighting poverty and preservation of human rights by providing poor children an opportunity for a primary education.

With a population of over a billion people in India, an estimated 174 million are children between the ages of 6 and 14.

  • At least 35 million children aged 6 – 14 years do not attend school.
  • 53% of girls in the age group of 5 to 9 years are illiterate.
  • More than 50 per cent of girls fail to enroll in school; those that do are likely to drop out by the age of 12.
  • The reason is they need to work to support their families and have little interest in pursuing an education.
  • their parents never went to school and choose to put their kids to work instead of educating them
  • the Government does not have the infrastructure to secure an education for children from impoverished families
  • there are an insufficient number of non-profit charity organizations who work at the grass root levels to ensure that these underprivileged children will get a primary education

The mission of our charity foundation is to defend and uplift these innocent children who are forced into child labor and are victims of abuse and sexual exploitation.

These children live in slums with no safe drinking water, no plumbing, and conditions
susceptible to disease and sickness. Children and their parents do not receive routine
health care or immunizations and are often exposed to and contract serious illnesses
such as tuberculosis, malaria, dysentery, malnutrition, small pox and leprosy.

We are working hard at establishing one-on-one sponsorships between individuals
and impoverished children in India.

With the help of sponsorships, these children will be saved from abuse, hard labor and possible sexual exploitation and given the opportunity to obtain an education.

We are also raising funds to build a school for impoverished children which will provide primary education to impoverished children and employment to underprivileged and mentally challenged people.
